Life, Life
00 :23
Life, life, life, must pass together, just this way
Promise me, promise to come and meet me right here,
it might well be one soul, but we are still two separated bodies
Be mine and remain so forever,
you must never say goodbye!
00 :44
[both lines x2]
My morning is just you, and you alone are my evening
You are (my) pain, you are (my) relief
From my prayers, only this cry comes:
Be mine and remain so forever,
you must never say goodbye!
[both lines x2]
01 :51
Both my worlds rest in your arms
Wherever you reside, my heaven is that very place
This flame that is burning, is two-sided
My vow is that it never be extinguished
You are my longing, I am your love
You are my poem, am your music
02 :23
Desire, desire, desire, to me, is only for you
You must, converted into intoxication, dissolve in my veins
Perform this repayment of my love:
Be mine and remain so forever,
you must never say goodbye!
02 :44
My morning is just you, and you alone are my evening
You are (my) pain, you are (my) relief
From my prayers, only one cry comes:
Be mine and remain so forever,
you must never say goodbye!
Goodbye …

Janam Janam (Hindi: जनम जनम, Urdu: جَنَم جَنَم) “Life, Life” is a song played in the 2015 Indian film ‘Dilwale”.

janam can also be used to address a loved one: “Oh, (my) life!”

The video clip shows movie scenes of the protagonists, Raj (Shah Rukh Khan), and Meera (Kajol), both heirs of rival crime families, during one of their many reconciliations.

In this case, family and friends arranged an encounter by tampering with Meera’s car, knowing that Raj, who now works as a mechanic, would volunteer to help.

Raj and Meera end up reconciling yet again and dancing under the rain.

When Meera says “both worlds” in the stanza:

terii baaNhoN meN haiN mere donoN jahaan Both my worlds lie in your arms tuu rahe jidhar merii jannat vahiiN wherever you reside, my heaven is that very place

those “both worlds” refer to this life and the afterlife, a very common trope in Hindustani romantic poetry

The song’s lyrics were written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, and the music was composed by Pritam .

The playback singers were Arijit Singh for the male parts, and Antara Mitra for the female parts.
